The psalm is a prayer of David in the midst of persecution and danger. The verse asks God to turn to his servant and give him strength, for the psalmist calls himself a servant and the son of your maidservant. It is the cry of one who knows that without divine help he will not endure. David bases his request on his covenant relationship with God. Today, when our strength runs out, we can ask the Lord to renew our vigor. Being a servant of the Most High also means resting in his care. Weakness acknowledged before God becomes the gateway to his power.
