Isaiah chapter 43 is a message of redemption, in which God presents himself as the creator and redeemer of Israel, whom he formed for himself. Verse 1 already assures: fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name, you are mine. Verse 2 promises God's presence in trials: when you pass through the waters and rivers, they will not overflow you; when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. God does not promise a life without difficulties, but he promises to cross each difficulty with us. That is different from avoiding the problem; it is walking with someone greater than the problem. Today this word sustains us in any crisis. The Lord who called us by name walks with us.
