Explanation

Isaiah chapter 60 projects the glory of a restored Zion, a city that receives the light of God and draws the nations. Verse 1 is a vibrant call: arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. The city that lived in darkness is invited to rise, because the dawn came from God. The light does not come from human achievements but from the glory of the Lord rising upon his people. This vision is fulfilled in the coming of Christ, the light of the world, and continues in the mission of the church. Today each of us is called to arise and reflect that light in a world that needs hope. Whatever is dark in our lives can be illuminated by the presence of the Lord.
