Explanation
Isaiah chapter 48 calls Israel to listen carefully, because God desired the good of his people despite their hardness of heart. Verse 17 presents the Lord as the Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, who teaches what is profitable and leads along the right way. God is not only the lawgiver who commands; he is the teacher who instructs and the guide who leads. The phrase teaches what is profitable shows that God's will always aims at our good. Many times we want to follow other paths, but the Lord knows the direction that does us good. Today we can pray for wisdom to learn and humility to follow God's direction. Whoever lets himself be taught by the Redeemer walks in safety.
