Explanation
Isaiah chapter 50 belongs to the third servant song and describes the confidence of one who gives himself to God's mission even in the face of suffering. The servant says that God helped him, so he was not discouraged nor ashamed. He declares: I shall not be confounded, for I set my face like a flint, hardened against shame. The image is one of firmness and courage to follow the path God gives, whatever the cost. That determination finds perfect fulfillment in Jesus, who endured the cross despising its shame. Today, when we are called to obey God in the midst of difficulties, we can count on his help. Trust in the Lord gives a firm face even in the hardest hours.
