Isaiah chapter 49 contains the second servant song, which will be a light for the nations, and comforts the people who felt forgotten by God. In the middle of the promise of restoration, verse 16 brings an unforgettable image: I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. God draws his people on his own skin, like a tattoo that cannot be erased. The Lord answers the complaint of Zion, which thought it had been abandoned: you are always before my eyes. This truth holds for each of us today. When we feel forgotten or invisible, God says we are unforgettable to him. Divine love is personal, permanent, and engraved.
