In chapter 8, Paul celebrates life in the Spirit and the certainty of God's love in Christ. The verse affirms that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose. It does not say that everything is good, but that everything contributes to the final good. Not even suffering escapes the sovereign rule of God. The promise is not the absence of pain, but the certainty that no pain is wasted. God's calling gives meaning to every chapter of our story.
