Psalm 54 was written when David was betrayed by the Ziphites, who handed him over to Saul. In verse 4, David affirms: behold, God is my helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life. Even when betrayed by his own people, David finds help in God. People may fail, but the Lord remains faithful. God does not only deliver; he sustains life in all its dimensions. This verse teaches that true help comes from the One who does not change. When friendships disappoint or trust is broken, we can run to the God who helps. David did not let bitterness take hold; he trusted. Today we can hand our betrayals and disappointments to the Lord. He is our firm help.
