The psalm celebrates divine protection: If the Lord had not been on our side, let Israel now say. It is a confession of gratitude for the deliverances received. The psalmist imagines what would have happened without God's intervention: they would have been swallowed by the waters. Today, this verse calls us to recognize the times when the Lord protected us without our noticing. How many threats were diverted by God's grace? Gratitude is born when we look back and see the divine hand. God was on our side in every danger, even when invisible. The Lord's protection is worthy of being proclaimed.
