Agur, the author of this chapter, makes a powerful declaration about the Word of God. Every word of God is pure, without any mixture of error, worthy of trust. The image recalls metal refined in fire, from which every impurity has been removed. The second part connects the Word with protection: God is a shield to those who trust in him. The trust that leads us to receive the Word is what places us under God's protection. This verse is a sure foundation in times of doubt and confusion. When many voices compete for our attention, the Word remains firm. Today we are invited to trust in the sufficiency of Scripture. Those who take refuge in God find direction and safety.
