In this chapter wisdom speaks as a person and reveals her character. The fear of the Lord is not merely a feeling; it shows itself in concrete attitudes, and the first of them is hating evil. Wisdom hates pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth. This list shows that God is not impressed by position or eloquence but examines intentions. Humility is not an optional virtue for those who desire wisdom. When we love what God loves and detest what he detests, our hearts align with his. Today we are invited to examine our attitudes and words. The fear of the Lord changes what we value.
