The Bible opens with the most fundamental declaration of all: God is the Creator of everything. In the beginning points to the start of all that exists, before which only God was. The text does not discuss God's origin; it simply presents him as the only One who creates. The heaven and the earth is a way of saying the entire universe. This verse is the foundation of biblical faith: life and history have purpose because they were born from God's will. All that we are comes from him. Today, beginning each day by remembering who God is changes our perspective. If he created everything, everything is under his care. Creation is the first invitation to worship.
