The story of the tower of Babel begins with this verse: the whole earth had one language. That unity could have been a blessing, but humanity used it to exalt itself, building a tower to reach the heavens and make a name for itself. The chapter shows human pride trying to take God's place. The opening verse, however, also holds a precious lesson: true communication is a gift from God. When we use it to understand one another, we build up; when we use it to make ourselves great, we end up confused. Today we are invited to reflect on what we build and with what intention. True greatness is not found in climbing but in serving.
