The book of Genesis ends with Jacob's death and the fear of Joseph's brothers, who still expected vengeance. Joseph calms them with the phrase that summarizes his whole story: as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good. Joseph did not minimize the evil they had suffered; he acknowledged it. But he placed beside it the sovereignty of God, who turned it into an instrument of salvation for many. That is the great lesson of Genesis: God governs history, even through human failure. What was meant to destroy Joseph, God used to preserve lives. Joseph's forgiveness sprang from that certainty. Today we are invited to trust that God writes straight on crooked lines. Our pains are not the end of the story. Nothing is lost in God's hands.
