Isaiah chapter 26 is a song of trust sung in the city of God, in contrast with the human city that trusts in itself. Verse 3 summarizes the security of God's people: perfect peace is kept for the one whose mind is stayed on the Lord. The original expression conveys the idea of a mind leaning on God, anchored like a house on the rock. The promised peace does not depend on outward circumstances but on the direction of our thoughts. When trust is in the Lord, the heart does not waver at the news. Today we are invited to fix our thoughts on God, especially in times of uncertainty. That is the source of peace the world cannot give.
