Isaiah chapter 27 announces the deliverance of Israel and uses the image of the vineyard, dear to God, which he himself protects. Verse 3 is a promise full of care: I the Lord do keep it, I will water it every moment, lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day. The image is of a vigilant and present God who does not sleep and does not forget his vineyard. Just as the farmer carefully protects what he has planted, the Lord cares for his people with constant attention. This means our security does not depend on our strength but on the faithfulness of the watchman. Today we can rest in the certainty that we are kept by hands that never grow weary.
