Isaiah chapter 34 is a somber oracle of judgment upon Edom, a symbol of hostility against God's people. In the middle of so much destruction, verse 16 makes a surprising invitation: seek out of the book of the Lord and read; none of these shall fail. Everything God announced will be fulfilled with precision, because it is his mouth that commands. This text points to the absolute trustworthiness of God's Word. If the promised judgment comes to pass, so will the promises of salvation. Today we are invited to search the book of the Lord, read carefully, and trust that none of his words falls to the ground.
