In this prayer, David seeks protection against enemies that surround him. Verse 8 uses precious images: keep me as the apple of your eye, hide me under the shadow of your wings. The apple of the eye is the most delicate and protected part of the body, a symbol of intimate and personal care. David asks not only for deliverance but for closeness and shelter. The shadow of the wings recalls God's care as a bird protects its young. That image speaks of safety, warmth, and refuge. When we feel threatened, we can ask God for the same protection. He guards us with tenderness and welcomes us close to his heart.
