Psalms 20:7
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

Explanation

This psalm is a prayer of the people for the king before a battle. Verse 7 draws a powerful contrast: some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord. Chariots and horses represent military strength, wealth, and technology, everything that seems to give security. Trusting in God does not ignore human means, but it does not depend on them. David teaches that true victory comes from depending on the Lord. Today our chariots and horses may be money, a diploma, a position, or influence. The question is: where do we place our final trust? Only the name of the Lord endures forever.
