Psalms 23:1
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Explanation

Psalm 23 is the most famous of all, and verse 1 sums up its message: the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. David, who was a shepherd of sheep, knew the needs and dangers of the flock. As a shepherd, God guides, feeds, protects, and cares. The statement I shall not want is the testimony of one who learned to depend on the Lord in every circumstance. The Christian life is a constant shepherding: we are led by the good Shepherd. When we recognize the Lord as shepherd, anxiety loses ground, because we trust that he supplies every need. Today we can rest in that promise and follow his ways.
