Psalms 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Explanation

Psalm 27 is a song of courage, composed by David in the middle of dangers. Verse 1 declares: the Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Light points to direction and hope; salvation, to deliverance. With God as light, we do not walk in darkness; with God as salvation, we do not need to fear evil. David does not ignore dangers; he relativizes them before the greatness of the Lord. Faith does not eliminate problems; it puts them in the right perspective. When fear tries to dominate, we can repeat this confession. The presence of God is stronger than any threat. Whoever has the Lord walks neither alone nor without direction.
