Psalms 7:17
I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.

Explanation

This psalm was born from an unjust accusation against David, perhaps made by Cush, a Benjamite. David declares his innocence and asks God to judge with righteousness. In the end, the righteous do not take vengeance into their own hands: they thank the Lord for his justice. Verse 17 teaches that our response to injustice should be gratitude and trust in divine judgment. Returning evil with revenge is not the psalmist's way. When we are slandered or mistreated, we can hand our cause to God and keep on praising. Praising in the middle of an offense is an act of mature faith, and God's justice, in its own time, makes itself known.
