Explanation
Isaiah chapter 66 closes the book with the vision of the new heaven and the new earth, and with a final invitation to praise. Verse 13 uses an image full of tenderness to describe God's comfort: as one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you. God's strength does not exclude gentleness; he welcomes us like a mother rocking a weeping child. This promise comforted the people returning from exile and reaches us today. The same greatness that created the heavens stoops down to wipe away tears. The book ends pointing to complete restoration, when God will fully comfort his people. Today we can find in the Lord's arms the comfort that no circumstance can take away. God's comfort is maternal, constant, and real.
