In Matthew 1, the evangelist presents the genealogy of Jesus and the announcement of his birth. The verse reveals the heart of Christ's mission: he came to save his people from their sins. The name Jesus means exactly that, God saves. This is one of the clearest passages about the purpose of Jesus' coming into the world. Today we can live with the certainty that no sin is too great for his grace. He came precisely to free us from what enslaves us most.
