Psalm 44 is a collective prayer of the people in a time of defeat, remembering past victories. Verse 8 affirms: in God we boast all the day long, and praise your name forever. The people recognize that their conquests did not come from their own strength but from the Lord. When things go well, it is easy to attribute success to God; the challenge is to keep that praise also in difficult times. Verse 8 expresses a decision to glory in God every day. Our identity is not in victories but in the Lord who sustains us. Today we can make praise a lifestyle. Glorying in God gives us firmness in any circumstance.
