Explanation

Psalm 59 was written when Saul sent men to watch David's house and kill him. In verse 16, David answers with praise: but I will sing of your power; in the morning I will sing aloud of your mercy, for you have been my refuge and my shelter in the day of my distress. Even under threat of death, David chooses the song. God's power and mercy are the reasons for his praise. The morning brings the chance to begin again trusting in the Lord. Whoever has tasted the divine refuge in distress has reasons to sing. Today we can make praise our answer to fears and threats. God is our shelter day and night. Singing in hard times is an act of faith.
