Explanation
Psalm 35 is an imprecatory prayer; David asks God to defend his cause against enemies who pursue him without reason. In verse 9, in the middle of the struggle, he affirms: my soul shall be joyful in the Lord; it shall rejoice in his salvation. Even before accusations and betrayals, David chooses praise. The joy of the righteous does not depend on the enemies' response but on God's salvation. When we are wronged, the temptation is to cultivate bitterness; the psalmist shows another way. We can hand the cause to God and keep trusting in his justice. The Lord is the righteous judge who defends his own. Today we can rest in that certainty.
