Psalm 39 is a meditation on the brevity of life. David perceives that human efforts are limited and that life passes like a breath. In verse 7 he reaches an essential conclusion: and now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in you. Before the fragility of existence, the only secure anchor is God. David learns that life must not be wasted on vanities but lived in hope in the Lord. That hope is not escapism; it is a real perspective on what matters. Knowing that we are limited helps us value each day and trust in the One who is eternal. Today we can renew our hope in the Lord, who gives meaning to life.
