Psalm 40 testifies to the deliverance David experienced after a long period of waiting. Verse 1 says: I waited patiently for the Lord, and he inclined to me and heard my cry. David does not hide the delay, but he also celebrates the answer. God bends down to listen, an image of closeness and care. Patient waiting is not passive; it is a trust that remains firm until the answer. During that time, David learned to sing a new song. Many times waiting is the school of faith. When we feel that God is slow, we can remember that he hears us and bends down toward us. Waiting on God is never in vain.
