Psalm 71 is the prayer of an elderly man who has served God since his youth. Verse 5 declares: for you are my hope, O Lord God; you are my trust from my youth. Mature hope comes from a life of constant trust. David learned, through the years, that God never fails. That hope is not a utopia; it is a foundation built day after day. When old age brings fragility, trust in the Lord remains firm. We can learn from a young age to depend on God, so that this root sustains our entire lives. Hope in the Lord does not grow old. Today we can renew that trust and pass it on to the next generations. God is worthy of our hope in every stage of life.
