Psalm 72 is a prayer for a righteous king who governs with integrity and cares for the poor. Verse 6 uses a delicate image: he shall come down like rain upon the mown grass, like showers that water the earth. A good ruler is like the rain that refreshes and makes the land fruitful. For Christians, that ideal king points to Jesus, the righteous King who came to bring life and peace. The image of rain speaks of blessing, restoration, and hope. When God's kingdom reigns, life flourishes. This verse teaches us to value justice and care for the needy. Today we can pray for our leaders, asking that they be like rain of blessing. King Jesus came to give us life in abundance.
