Explanation
Psalm 74 is a lament over the destruction of the temple and the city of Jerusalem, written by Asaph in the middle of national disaster. Verse 12 declares: but God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. Even when the temple lies in ruins, God is still King. Asaph does not deny the devastation, but he affirms divine sovereignty. God's reign does not depend on buildings or circumstances. He continues to work salvation even when everything seems lost. This verse is encouragement for times of ruin and hopelessness. Today, facing destroyed projects or shattered dreams, we can remember that God still reigns. His salvation remains active in the middle of our story. Nothing can dethrone the Lord.
