Solomon describes the difference between an ordinary friendship and a bond that withstands trials. A true friend loves at all times, not only on convenient days. The second part speaks of distress, when need reveals who is really at our side. It is in pain that friendship shows its maturity. Some disappear when life grows heavy, while others draw near in the hour of crisis. The text also points to Christ, the friend present in every situation. Today we are invited to cultivate loyalty and to be present in hard times. A brother in distress is a gift from God.
