Abram and Lot returned from Egypt rich in livestock, and the herdsmen of both began to quarrel over space. To avoid conflict, Abram takes the initiative for peace: he lets Lot choose the region first. The chosen verse holds the key to the episode: we are brothers, and fellowship is worth more than possessions. Abram did not assert his rights; he preferred to trust God, who would later promise him the whole land. His generosity was not weakness but faith. The text shows that the wise prefer to lose a right rather than lose a brother. Today we are invited to resolve conflicts in a spirit of peace. Greatness of character appears in the willingness to yield for the common good.
