Explanation
God renews his covenant with Abram and changes his name to Abraham, father of many nations. In the chosen verse, the Lord presents himself as the Almighty God and issues the challenge that summarizes the life of faith: walk before me, and be thou perfect. Holiness is not an isolated requirement but the consequence of living before God. Walking in the presence of the Almighty is living with the awareness that he sees us in everything. The word perfect has the sense of integrity, of being faithful, not of never failing. God would complete in Abraham what he could not achieve. Today we are invited to live with integrity, knowing that we stand before God. Walking with God is the secret of faithfulness.
