“And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.”

Explanation
The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah ends with a detail full of grace: God remembered Abraham. It was not because of Lot's merit, who hesitated and nearly stayed behind, but because of divine mercy linked to prayer and the covenant. God acted on Lot's behalf because he remembered Abraham, his friend and faithful servant. This reveals that our prayers often reach the people we love. Lot was rescued from the midst of destruction, even though he lost almost everything. The text teaches that God's mercy rescues even those who came dangerously close to evil.
