On Mount Moriah, God tested Abraham's faith by asking for the most precious thing he had. When the son was spared, Abraham called that place Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord will provide. The verse summarizes the lesson of the whole episode: God provides at the time and in the place he chooses. The ram replaced Isaac on the altar, pointing to the Lamb of God who would be offered for us. The provision did not come before obedience but at the exact moment of need. Abraham did not lose his son; he gained an altar and a greater promise. Today we are invited to trust that God will provide what we need. Obedience to God is never a path of loss. On the Lord's mountain, he reveals himself as provider.
