Genesis 32:26 — Saturday, August 1, 2026

On the eve of his meeting with Esau, Jacob is left alone and wrestles all night with a mysterious man. The verse holds the patriarch's plea: I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. Jacob, who once depended on deceit, now learns to depend on God. The struggle was not against an enemy but with God himself, who wanted to transform Jacob's character. Clinging to God with perseverance was the turning point of his life. God did not turn away from that insistence; he answered with blessing and a new name: Israel. Insistent prayer is an expression of mature faith. Today we are invited to wrestle in prayer when situations seem dark. Perseverance in God's presence transforms our character.
