Pharaoh calls Joseph to interpret his dreams, and the young man who spent years in prison is brought before the king. The verse records Joseph's humble answer: it is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace. Joseph did not use the occasion to promote himself; he gave glory to God before the most powerful king in the world. That humility opened the doors to his exaltation. The text shows that God honors those who do not steal his glory. Joseph knew that the wisdom to interpret dreams was a gift. The answer of peace was fulfilled, and Pharaoh recognized that the Spirit of God was in Joseph. Today we are invited to exercise our abilities with humility. When we recognize that everything comes from God, he uses us with power. Humility is the path to true greatness.
