Explanation
The most awaited moment of Joseph's story arrives: he reveals himself to his brothers. When they fear vengeance, Joseph calms them. The verse holds his declaration: now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. Joseph did not deny the evil they had suffered but read it from God's perspective. What the brothers did out of wickedness, God used for good. This is one of the great lessons of the Bible: God turns evil into good. Joseph was not bitter, because he saw God's hand in his story. Today we are invited to trust that God writes straight through our pains. He does not cause evil, but he redeems it. Joseph's story ends in reconciliation because there was faith in God.
