Genesis 47:9 — Sunday, August 16, 2026

Jacob, now one hundred and thirty years old, is presented to Pharaoh. The verse holds the patriarch's answer: the days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been. Jacob calls his own life a pilgrimage, recognizing that in this land we are travelers. He also speaks honestly: he does not hide that his journey had suffering. Even so, that long life was kept by God. The text teaches us to see life as a pilgrimage: blessings received in passing, a destination beyond this earth. Jacob's honesty was not a lack of faith but mature realism. Today we are invited to value each day as a gift. Our true home is heavenly.
