“My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.”

Explanation
Isaiah chapter 15 brings a brief oracle against Moab, a neighboring people of Israel that would also be struck by destruction. Although judgment is announced, the prophet reveals a sensitive heart that weeps and feels for Moab's suffering. Verse 5 shows Isaiah crying out in pain at the flight of the Moabites, a scene full of tears. This teaches us that God does not rejoice in anyone's ruin, not even his enemies. Divine judgment always comes accompanied by compassion, because God desires conversion and not death. Today we are called to look with mercy upon those who suffer, even when they are far from God.
