Explanation
Isaiah chapter 16 continues the oracle against Moab but ends by pointing to a hope greater than destruction. Verse 5 speaks of a throne established in mercy, seated in the tent of David, where judgment is made in truth and righteousness is pursued. This figure of a just and merciful king points to the Messiah, a descendant of David, who would bring a government different from all human empires. Unlike the kings who oppressed, he would judge with compassion and with eagerness to do justice. Christian hope confirms that this throne is fulfilled in Jesus, whose kingdom never ends.
