Explanation
Isaiah chapter 18 is an oracle addressed to Ethiopia, a distant and powerful nation that sent messengers along the Nile. Rather than rushing into war, God declares that he remains in his place, watching calmly, like heat that ripens the plants and dew in the time of harvest. The image is of a sovereign God who is not disturbed by the maneuvers of the nations but acts at the right moment. The Lord lets human plans ripen and then intervenes with justice. This teaches us that haste and anxiety do not govern the world; God does. Today we can entrust our future to the one who sees everything with patience and wisdom.
